Here We Go!

So…the first post. A fine time to find myself speechless! I guess I should start by defining my little space here in the blogosphere!

Here’s the thing: this space is not clearly defined in my mind right now. I know I want to share some of the cool things that happen in my day, I want to share the wonderful recipes and home-making things I find out there in the world and on Pinterest (yup I’m an addict but I actually DO the things I pin. REALLY I do!) I want it to be fun and light hearted and to enlighten and to encourage and to educate. [Cue Kum-ba-ya]

I call the blog Momma T’s Table because for me the table is the heart of the home. In my house this is where my kids bring their friends after school. They gather around, play games, laugh loudly, talk and EAT. BOY do they eat!

Yes, my table is where my family gathers at the end of their day to take part in a meal but also to talk about their day, to laugh about things that happened to them, to discuss our far-from-perfect-lives. It’s a place for the grown-ups to linger after a meal and talk about anything until there’s room for dessert. My table is also a place where we play games together, or where we have talks about serious things. It’s where we plan and pray and play. It’s so much more than a place to eat a meal as you can see.

Of course there is eating at my table. Lots and lots of it! I certainly love cooking food and serving it and eating it! And I think that a good meal goes a long way toward bringing out conversation. If people are enjoying the food then they are relaxed enough to start conversations. It’s a powerful tool, food.

My actual table is special to me too. It was made for me by my oldest son out of barn boards from my husband’s family farm. Together my husband and my son worked the old boards into a rustic and lovely and LARGE place for us to gather. Enough room to accommodate our growing family as a new generation joins us.

Here’s what I want. I want to connect to people who are happy where they are. People who know what is important in life and who know that THINGS are not what matter, but that PEOPLE and our relationships with them ARE what matter.

Whatever this evolves into I’m happy to be here. Happy to be at the end of this first post. (Whew!) and I hope that those who’s eyes fall upon this blog are happy enough to have found it that they pull up a virtual chair and stay a while. Welcome to Momma T’s Table!
