What’s On Momma T’s Table?

I thought it might be fun, every now and again to take a look at what is on my table. Kind of a peek at what is at the center of our household.

Like many families right now, we’ve had the creeping crud working it’s way through our house. Congestion, cough, sore throat, you know the stuff. Not anything that requires a prescription but enough to get your rear-end draggin.

This time it was the girl child who brought the scourge into our home. It wasn’t any time before her brother started showing signs of coming down with it too, and soon thereafter the Hubs fell stricken with it as well.

As (their) luck would have it, I remembered seeing a magic elixir for just such ailments! To the Pinterest boards! Of course it was there! Super mom to the rescue once more! This concoction consists of 1 T. Vinegar, 2 T. water, 1/4 tsp Cayenne pepper, 1/4 tsp ginger and 1 T. Honey. You mix the Vinegar, water and spices together until the spices dissolve and then add the honey. One tablespoon by mouth soothes the throat and clears the sinus cavities! It’s sweet and sour and packs a punch at the end but they’ll take it and they’ll like it. Actually I’ve had a little myself, it’s not bad and it really does work! The girl was feeling better by the next morning, the boy never did get it as badly as the rest and the man was back to work within a day.

Mention of this elixir on fb last night prompted a cousin of mine to comment that they were probably pretending to feel better so that I wouldn’t make them take it anymore. (Maybe, but at least it wasn’t Caster Oil) This got us talking about our grandma Minnie and the things she used to do to “make you feel better”. She was big on sauerkraut juice and baking soda for an upset stomach! She swore by it. We both agreed that her remedies were probably worse that “what ailed you” but over all that woman was our hero. (She raised 11 kids so she gained instant heroism with me right there!)

Anyway, here it is our little Miracle in a little jar and it sits right in the middle of Momma T’s Table reminding everyone to take their medicine and feel better! Here’s the link to the original post as well: http://nancyvienneau.com/blog/articles/home-remedy/
