Fried Cabbage

Brought out and oldie but an OH SO goodie last Sunday. Fried Cabbage is a tasty way to prepare this leafy green! And it’s SO SIMPLE!


Fried Cabbage


1 Head of Cabbage

5 or 6 slices of bacon

Salt and pepper to taste

That’s it! Just cabbage and bacon! This could not get any easier!

1. Chop your head of bacon up into bite-sized pieces.

2. Fry your bacon in a skillet. Remove the bacon and drain on paper towels. Reserve the bacon grease in the pan.

3. Toss the cabbage into the skillet with the hot grease and start frying it up over medium heat! You are going to want to let it sit and brown a bit then stir and brown some more. In fancy cook wording, you want to caramelize it a bit. 🙂

4. When it’s properly caramelized crumble or chop up the bacon and put it in with the cabbage. Reduce the heat to low and cover the skillet. Let it cook down until tender.

I served this up along side Pioneer Woman’s Crash Hot Potatoes. Hard to believe, but I had some of each left over so this Sunday I combined them to make a sort of Potato/Cabbage Hash to go with the Pork Chops by simply browning up the potatoes then adding in the cabbage and warming through! Both dishes were delicious!


There you have it! An easy-peasy side dish featuring a readily available winter veggie!
