We’ve kicked into high gear around here this week. High school football is in full swing and in these parts that’s pretty much a 5th season! Even though football is a Fall sport, in the Midwest it’s a season all it’s own. It goes like this, Winter, Spring, Summer, FOOTBALL and Fall. Whether you are a football fan or not, the Friday night lights seem to draw us all in at some level. Kind of brings everyone together in a way. At the grocery store, the local lumber yard or the coffee shop, on a Friday night almost anyone might be heard to wonder how the game is going or if anyone has heard the score. It’s funny a funny thing in a way. By the way, if anyone out there wonders, our local boys are 2-0 already! Woo-hoo! (See what I mean?)
Yeah, it’s setting up to be a great season. It’s setting up to be a busy one too. I’ve still got that one kid in high school and The Girl is such an over achiever! She’s involved in marching band, which if you have a band student is ALSO a season all it’s own. Home football games and a laundry list of marching band competitions spot our calendar. Add to this, she just landed the role of Ugly Duckling in the school production of Shrek the Musical! As the leaves change color, our calendar also turns a formidable shade of black from all of the activities. This too shall pass, and I’ll miss the activities one day…or so I’m told. We’ll see.
The activities certainly impacts what is served at our table as well as who is seated there and when. We could have anywhere from 3 to 6 or 7 if friends need to be fed before dashing off in the next direction. These are the times that having a planned menu help me most. This way I KNOW what I have on hand, because I’ve shopped for the specific ingredients. Because of this, I can slide things around on the menu too, if by chance, the schedule changes at the last minute, as it has once already for this week. No matter what, there is a plan to get a meal on the table. It’s not fool-proof mind you, but at least it’s there for me when I need it.
So, here it is! This is what’s on Momma T’s Table THIS week:
Sunday – Grab it and Growl
Saturday – Overnight CinnaTmon Rolls
