Wow what a weekend! A fun weekend! We had a family game day with our 4-H families on Saturday, TWO date nights (Friday and Saturday) and Family Funday Sunday! Well, Sunday was a mixed bag actually, Yay for family and games and grandbabies, but the Packer’s game was not so much fun.
Oh well, these things happen. At least I didn’t have to watch the misery happen, since last week I was determined to be a jinx and therefore banned from the room where the game was playing. Instead I spent game time outside doing this:
That right there is a tub full of brat/beer goodness! Oh these were SO good! They had about a 1/4″ pink smoke ring on the inside too! Steven Reichlen would have been proud! I smoked them on indirect heat with Whisky Barrel wood chips for 50 minutes then put them in the “hot tub” with 2 bottles of Michelob Amber Bock, a stick of butter and a big ole sweet onion sliced thick. Let that simmer on the grill for an hour or two and you’ve got the best brats you’ve ever tasted!
We served up a brat and hot dog bar on the kitchen table, complete with all of the toppings one could possibly wish for and some Cincinnati-style chili and kraut of course! Here’s what my #2 son put together:
That’s Kraut on the bottom, onion from the brat tub cheese and chili! Mine had raw onions, kraut, honey dijon mustard and cheese with a whole onion slice from the tub on the side. Yeah, it made Greenbay’s loss almost tolerable. At least it was a comfort.
After dinner we played a rousing game of Nertz, a new game I learned at 4-H family game day! I’d have taken a picture of it, but if you’ve ever played Nertz, you’d know that was impossible. 🙂 In all though, the weekend was filled with laughter and love and all around good things. I love weekends like that! However, weekends like that don’t lend themselves very well to blogging, so I’m late with this post. I’m not going to apologize for having too much fun though!
The new week brings new things, and a new menu. I’ve decided to start using this photo as my featured image for my menu posts.
The Man gave it to me for Christmas and I absolutely LOVE it! It seems fitting to have it on here and someday on my new kitchen walls…which I’m still trying to choose a color for. Menard’s is having their 11% deal this week so maybe that will inspire me to get the decision made!

Assigning breakfasts is just not working. Some mornings just don’t lend themselves to a big production breakfast. Some days are just cold cereal days, no matter what. Here’s what I’ve got on hand:
- Frozen Pancakes (The Man made an entire box of pancakes last weekend so we froze the extra)

- 12-Grain Toast and Almond Butter

Wednesday – Old Fashioned Beef Stew
Thursday – BBQ Kielbasa Skillet over Rice
Friday – Honey Lime Chicken Enchiladas
Saturday – Chicken Strips
